I’m Moving! :) + A New York guide
Hi guys,
Long time no blog. I’m sorry I keep putting things aside.
I am going through a lot of changes in my life, and as the first step, I am moving out of New York. It is a bit surreal for me, because I have mixed feelings about New York. I came to New York in 2005 and lived in the city for 6 years. When I left Korea to come back to the states (I was in high school back then), I was asked what I wanted to do in America by my Korean teacher. I wasn’t thinking and just randomly blurted out that I wanted to work on Wall Street. It’s funny how things worked out, and I actually ended up in New York!
I’m currently packing my stuff and I feel a bit sad that my time in New York is going to end soon. I regret not taking a lot of pictures. I feel like I’m leaving the city with no evidence of my existence here.
Some advice for those planning to live in New York.

Places to frequently go in New York.

2. Public Libraries
The smaller branches are like any other public libraries, but the bigger ones are pretty awesome. The SIBL (Science, Industry and Business Library on 34th and Madison) is one of the awesome ones. It is more like a finance library (you can check stocks, industry news, take workshops and even work on bloomberg terminals), but it’s super clean and very well organized. A lot of people come to the study at the lower level.
Mid-Manhattan Library is pretty nice too. They have pretty much every new release in a timely manner. The inside isn’t as pristine as SIBL, but it’s doable. A lot of homeless and jobless people tend to hang out here during the day time, so if you’re there for serious studying I would recommend going to SIBL.

Things that you should be totally cool about.
1. People sticking their limbs in closing subway doors.
It’s like wtf. I’ve never seen people do this anywhere else. But people in new york constantly, and I mean CONSTANTLY, do this. Every time you are in the subway you will be able to see someone scrambling towards a closing door, sticking their limbs in and trying to force open the subway door. And the funny thing is, the door opens. Occasionally, the person who held the door open forces the door open to let his/her friend or family to scramble in the subway car. If you annoy the subway car operator, they will start cursing you out through the
2. Urin smell in subway stations.
No comment about that
3. Getting yelled at.
4. Free water
Yup, that’s one good thing about living in New York 😀 Free water!! You don’t have to pay water bills in the city! New York is also known for its clean tap water, but there’s a catch to that. The city is old, and so are the pipe lines. So even if the tap water is clean, the pipes that pass the water is rusting and old, so try to avoid drinking straight from the tap.
5. People walking on streets (especially 7th Ave. mid town)
This only happens around 5:00 – 6:00 on 7th ave, in midtown, where a lot of corporations are located. People leaving work spill out to the streets and one lane is filled with people, not even blinking an eye when a car zooms by.
Jay walking
As long as one is faster than the approaching car, one tends to cross the street regardless of the walk/stop signal. I don’t know.. but it’s an unwritten rule in New York.
