New Camera – Leica Q2
I’ve been dabbling with cameras throughout most of my adult life, and somewhere deep inside Leica has always been my ultimate object of desire. When the original Q came out in 2015, I was tempted to get it, but the near $5K price tag was a bit too much to justify. At the end of the day, I don’t generate any income with my gear… I’m merely a hobbyist, mostly taking pictures of my birds.
Fast forward to 2020, here I am sitting at home since early March, and I feel like I’ve been through basically every Leica Q/Q2 review video on Youtube, and I am convinced that this will be my ultimate final destination in terms of cameras. It doesn’t get any better, and I think my craving for better gear will stop at Leica (wishful thinking?). I’ve always romanticized about using cameras for a long time, and sadly I’ve only had one camera that felt like I had molded into mine – the Panasonic GX1. Other than the GX1, I’ve been moving on to the next camera too fast. With the current Fujifilm X-T3 and Leica Q2 combo, I think I’m at a really sweet spot. (I hear eyes rolling, but we’ll see how long I last with this camera!)
So with that said, here’s an unboxing video and just some simple shots of the camera itself.
I’m in no way professional enough to talk about the technical specs. I’ll list the specs at the end for reference.
Here are my 5 main reasons why I decided to purchase this camera:
1. The crazy overkill of 47-megapixel sensor
2. The tank-like construct of the body
3. The 28mm Summilux lens everyone was raving about, and apparently it’s a bargain to buy this camera with this lens on it at this price
4. Weatherproof body
5. 4K video
I think my positioning as a camera user is somewhere around amateur and wannabe something hobbyist. My skillsets are nonexistent and I am the type of person who thinks lack of skills can be compensated with expensive equipment. My basic usage of camera does a lot of disservice to great machines like the Q2, but the ultimate hope is that I will be able to learn to take great photos by the means of the amazing gear I acquire.
Here are my initial thoughts and first impressions:
I don’t need to state the obvious. This camera is a beast. It’s solid, it’s the best of the best. In terms of build quality and picture taking capabilities, I have nothing to complain. It does what it’s supposed to do! *Italian chef hand kiss*

Hey Catalina, so glad you bought the camera. I’m a very casual photo taker, discovered that some of the Huawei phones actually use Leica lenses! i was so hyped about it until Huawei was banned in the US! 🙁
Catalina
Hi Julianne,
Yeah! It’s pretty insane that Huawei has Leica and Nokia has Zeiss lenses. I’d love to see them in action and try them out too!
What camera system are you using? I’m always curious about other people’s setups 😀
